Origin Of Name:Named for a division of the Sioux Tribe, whose name was variously written Teton, Titon or Titowan, and means "prairie dwellers." (Gannett, 1905) Named for the Teton Range which lies within its boundaries. Entirely surrounded by National Forests, Teton County is noted for its scenic grandeur. Organized in 1922. County seat is in Jackson. (WPA)
