Name:Wyopo
Origin Of Name:"A new town is started in the county of Fremont, a few miles north of Lander where the pipe line from Dallas will strike the railroad ... . Colonel Powers who is superintendent of that line ... is back of this movement for the establishing of this new town. The name is composed of the first three letters of our state 'Wyo' and the first three letters of the Col. name, 'Pow' making the name of Wyopow which one would consider to be a fair representation of an Indian name. (Riverton News, May 23, 1909) In May, 1909, the town of Wyopow was created. It was located near Lander. On July 15, the pipe line around which the town was built, was completed and a celebration held. The town became known as Wyopo shortly after this event. (WSL)
