Origin Of Name:Named in honor of General John Charles Fremont, whose explorations, throughout the West, earned him the title of the "Pathfinder" (of the Rocky Mountains). Situated near the geographical center of the state, Fremont County was organized in 1884. County seat is in Lander. (WPA)
