Origin Of Name:The Rochell Hills were named for the saline deposits in the vicinity. (WPA) Rochelle comes from Rochelle Salt, the popular name of the double tartrate of sodium and potassium. It was discovered in 1672 by a Rochelle, France apothecary named Seignette. (New International Encyclopedia) Rochelle was located on the Rochelle Ranch in the Rochelle Hills.
