| Range of mountains about 110 miles long, forming the portion of the Continental Divide trending northwestward from South Pass on the south to Togwotee Pass on the north, between the Wind River and the Green RiverFremont, Sublette, and Teton Counties. (Decisions, 1950) The Indians discovered a river down which a strong current of wind came from the northwest, and they, always being practical in the matter of names, called this river the Big Wind River. The prevailing winds along this river come through the notch between the Shoshone Range and the Wind River Range which takes its name from the river. (WPA) |
