According to early cowboys, an old dogie bull became obstreperous as the Carter herd was crossing this area, and was left to die. In the spring a round-up wagon found the bull in good health and utterly indifferent to his solitude at no great distance from the spot where he had been abandoned. He was an Oregon bull so his winter range was called Oregon Basin. (WPA)
