Origin Of Name:Named for the saline deposits in the vicinity. (WPA) Rochelle comes from Rochelle Salt, the popular name of the double tartrate of sodium and potassium. It was discovered in 1672 by a Rochelle, France apothecary named Seignette. (New International Encyclopedia) Also, this is the location of the Rochelle Ranch, named for Mr. Albert Rochelle, an early pioneer of the area. (Niobrara County Library Web 2014)
