Origin Of Name:River, Rising near summit of Wind river Range, flowing southeasterly and united with Popo Agie River to form Big Horn River, Fremont County, Wyo. (Decisions, 1916) Derives its name from the fact that its basin is subject to constant winds of considerable velocity. It was called by this name, from the earliest association of the white men with this country, by both the French and American trappers. (WPA)
