Origin Of Name:The J.K. Ranch was established by James Kerr Moore in 1872 on Meadow Creek near Crowheart. J.K. Moore was the Indian trader for the Wind River Reservation and military sutler at Fort Washakie, Wyoming, from the 1870s until the early 1900s. He sold the ranch to A.K. Kirkland in 1905. (Bell) Jaykay Post Office was established on October 18, 1913 with Alby Robert Kirkland as postmaster. The name of the Kirkland Ranch was the Jaykay Ranch. (Wind River Mountaineer December 15, 1916, page 19) On June 16, 1916, A. R. Kirkland and Mollie Terran received a patent on land. (General Land Office Records)
