Origin Of Name:It is believed former park Naturalist David Condon named this feature on the mistaken assumption that Nathaniel Langford sketched Yellowstone Lake from the summit. The use of the term "cairn" to denote the peak refers to the pile of rocks park photographer Jack Haynes built on the summit on August 29, 1924. (Whittlesey, 1988)
