Lost Soldier

Name:Lost Soldier
Origin Of Name:A part of Wyoming is known as the "Lost Soldier District." How it got its name is a story that carries a punch and a bit of a tragedy, as well as a tinge of reflection on men who wore the uniforms of soldiers. Some soldiers stationed down around Rawlins, Wyoming, in years past, heard of a spot in the hills where whiskey was being made. Three of them started out to find the spot. Whether they found it or not is another story. Two of them never returned. They became lost in the snow. A third one reached headquarters and there was a fruitless search for the missing pair. So the area covered in the search became known as the "Lost Soldier District." (WPA) The post office was located on Lost Soldier Creek. (Wyoming Post Offices)
