Origin Of Name:Believed to have been named after the LaGrange family who owned a ranch on Horse Creek, just south of the present town. The family is enumerated in the 1880 Census of Wyoming Territory. LaGrange is one of the oldest named locations in Wyoming. "According to records from 1867, a stage route ran from Denver, Colorado to Red Cloud and Spotted Tail Agencies. On this route, LaGrange Ranch was noted as a stage stop." LaGrange was incorporated in 1889. (Johnson) Both Caleb and Minnie LaGrange received patents on land at this location in 1888. (General Land Office Records)
